IXM – Pax and Load Factor – 2016

Madurai International Airport (IXM) has handled 9.69 lakh passengers in the year 2016. Out of them, around 6.97 lakh were domestic passengers and 2.72 lakh were international passengers. It is record increase of 28% compare to the last year.

This is the first for IXM to handle more than 9 lakh passengers in a year and more than 85,000 passengers in a single month. On average, 80788 passengers used IXM each month.

IXM also recorded an impressive load of 86% overall for the year 2016.

A quick trip between Dubai and Madurai – Part 1

Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans. One thing I always experienced in my life is when you plan a lot, it won’t happen. Good things usually happen all of a sudden. That is what happened while I was planning my trip.

In my previous TR, I promised that I will post more photos in my next TR. I hope I have fulfilled my promise and at the same time, not boring you with lot of pictures.

As usual, my whole hearted thanks to Abhijit and Hiren for providing many information and clearing many doubt. They are the one who I always rely on when I have any doubt in Aviation.

My First ever Trip Report – Doha to Madurai

First of all, I am excited to write my first Trip Report (TR) getting inspired from many guys in Airliners India forum. So apologies if its too lengthy and also for grammar as I’m not well versed with English. I’m bit shy in taking photos. So you many not find many in my TR. The few I took were also not in good quality. So bear with me this time. I’ll surely take better ones in my next trip. And I’m nowhere related to Aviation. Keep that in your mind before you start reading.

Before I start, I need to thank Abhijit, Raj Menon, Ameya, Jishnu and Hiren from Airliners India who continuously encouraged me to write a TR. OK. let’s start.

SpiceJet – Fleet, Bases and Aircraft rotations

It all started will my love and passion towards Madurai International Airport (IXM). SpiceJet is the first airline to start international service from IXM and is the largest operator at IXM. I started looking at the rotation of their flights operated to/from IXM. Then I slowly got interested in knowing about the day to day operation of each aircraft and its rotation. Thus the below things came up.

IXM – Pax and Load Factor – 2015

Madurai International Airport (IXM) has handled 7.59 lakh passengers in the year 2015. Out of them, around 5.15 lakh were domestic passengers and 2.44 lakh were international passengers. It is an increase of 6% compare to the last year.

This is the first for IXM to handle more than 7.5 lakh passengers in a year and more than 70,000 passengers in a single month. On average, 63278 passengers used IXM each month.

IXM also recorded an impressive load of 84% overall for the year 2015.

IXM – Pax and Load Factor – 2014

Madurai International Airport (IXM) has handled 7.16 lakh passengers in the year 2014. Out of them, around 5.22 lakh were domestic passengers and 1.94 lakh were international passengers. It is an increase of 11.96% compare to the last year.

This is the first for IXM to handle more than 7 lakh passengers in a year and more than 65,000 passengers in a single month. On average, 59700 passengers used IXM each month.

IXM also recorded a load of 76% overall for the year 2014.

Madurai International Airport (IXM) has handled close to 6.40 lakh passengers in the year 2013. Out of them, around 5.38 lakh were domestic passengers and 1.02 lakh were international passengers. It is an increase of 19.65% compare to the last year.

This is the first for IXM to handle more than 6 lakh passengers in a year and more than 60,000 passengers in a single month. On average, 53326 passengers used IXM each month.

IXM also recorded a load of 75% overall for the year 2013.

Can a LCC have 2 different types of aircraft? This is one of the never-ending debate. There are always examples for both successful and unsuccessful airlines in the world. In the case of SpiceJet, it was a distress. Though the decision of selecting Q400 was not so bad, the worst decision was to buy it instead of leasing.
